Anti Ageing

With time, our skin will inevitably begin to show tell-tale signs of ageing. This will manifest in the form of visible lines, wrinkles or sagging. Fortunately, there are anti-ageing products available to help.

Nobody is immune from the ageing process, and it’s perfectly natural for our faces to lose some of their youthful glow. However, there are some ways you can help fight against the signs of ageing.

MediADVICE is here to help you every step of the way.

Signs of ageing

There are several physical clues that your skin is beginning to age, including:

Facial lines. A primary sign of ageing is when your face starts to show visible lines. This can include crows’ feet (wrinkles that form at the corners of your eyes when you smile), laugh lines (creases that run between your nose and the corners of your mouth), or frown wrinkles (or ‘brow furrows’, these lines appear on your forehead).

Age spots. Age spots is the term for small, discoloured patches of skin which often cluster together as small dots. They can initially look like freckles.

Loss of elasticity. Over time your skin can start to become less firm and sag at specific places, particularly around the cheeks/chin and underneath the eyes.

Drooping eyelids. The fact that the skin covering our eyes is extremely thin means it can become loose very easily and makes the entire eye area look older.

Manageable causes of ageing

How can you care for your skin as you age?

Here are some tips to help improve your skin care routine

Adopting a holistic approach to skincare with an emphasis on moisturising is important. Important tips include:

  • Plenty of water

  • Good moisturisers, serums, exfoliators, face masks and bath oil

  • Specific products to deal with specific skin concerns

  • Switch products when they no longer suit

  • Use makeup that suits you, and adapt as necessary

  • Double cleanse at night

  • Active ingredients overnight

  • Sun protection measures

  • SPF in day cream and makeup

Protection against skin tears

In our 70s and beyond, the skin becomes much thinner, and tears more easily than when we were younger. Look for richer, more intensive emollient moisturisers, wear long-sleeved clothing and nourish your skin with a healthy, varied diet.
