Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccination

MMR vaccination is recommended for the following patients:

  • Children aged 12 months of age and older

  • Adolescents and adults born during or since 1966 who have not received 2 doses of measles-containing vaccine, particularly: Healthcare workers, childhood educators and carers, people who work in long-term care facilities, people who work in correctional facilities, and travellers

  • aged over 5 in NSW

  • aged over 10 in TAS

  • aged over 15 in VIC

Eligibility for free NIP vaccination for MMR

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free MMR vaccines to the following eligible Medicare card holders:

  • People aged up to 20 years who did not receive this vaccination in childhood

  • Refugees and other humanitarian entrants of any age who did not receive this vaccination in childhood

However, as regulations may change on a state-by-state basis, check current recommendations with your GP or Pharmacist. To vaccinate babies or younger children, you will need to see your GP.

Immunisation is the best protection against Measles, Mumps and Rubella and is highly recommended for all adults who haven’t already had two boosters, particularly those in high-risk groups like healthcare workers, parents or childcare workers, as well as those set to travel overseas.

Unfortunately, the vaccine is not suitable for women who are pregnant or planning to fall pregnant soon. If you fall into this category, please speak to your GP for more advice.
